The Windows Sales Pitch Strikes Again!

Die WalkureAs I described in an earlier article,we we recently had an experience with a window company who attempted to pressure us into the purchase of their product during a four hour in-home demonstration. Mind you, when I set up the appointment with the company, they assured me this entire sales presentation would take between 60 and 90 minutes. I was annoyed that it took such a large portion of my Saturday, but I did learn a lot and enjoyed talking with the salesman. He was smart, really knew his stuff, and was quite pleasant. Unfortunately, his company’s quote for window replacement was shockingly expensive and we informed him we were not interested.

The Windows Sales Pitch

We have known since purchasing our house that at some point we’ll replace our inefficient, leaky single-pane aluminum windows. We attend home remodeling shows to get ideas, and this month at the fall remodeling expo in Seattle, we signed up to begin gathering a few estimates. Last weekend we had scheduled a visit from a windows salesperson who spent a few hours performing an energy audit of our house. He also provided an estimate for window replacement. It wound up being educational from two perspectives, one good and one bad. Maybe it would be three perspectives, if you include “the ugly”.

The New Ovens

One of our big projects for this fall is our kitchen remodel. We have been replacing all the ancient appliances with modern stainless steel units, and this past weekend we got to the biggest and most challenging install: the ovens. Yes ovens as in “plural form of oven”. Why have one when you can have two at twice the price? Actually there are some pretty good reasons to install two ovens, and I’m glad we did it. For one thing, you can cook twice as many tater tots at once.
