I recently made a wager with co-workers, and yesterday I made good on my end of it. I agreed that if our project got corporate approval and funding, I would abandon my usual all-black wardrobe for one day and actuall wear color (!)

It was a rough day, but somehow I managed to get through it. Every time I saw myself in a mirror I was shocked to see green and brown. Ack! My friends in the IT group all wore black as an act of solidarity, which was very kind of them. Color was traumautic, but it could have been worse… I’m sure glad I didn’t wager that I’d dress like Elvis.

I should preface my posting by saying I was pretty sick at this gig. For the three days immediately before this date, I was unable to go to work and spent that time being several flavors of miserable. I haven’t been this sick in at least 20 years and have never missed three days of work due to illness. I didn’t really have the option to call in sick for the gig since it was our unofficial CD release party. Someone one said “the show must go on”. I’d like to find that guy and give him a wedgie.

I’ve always been a musical omnivore. My CD collection looks as though it was assembled by a committee. And the music room is a strange oasis that is home to a mixed herd of guitars [electric, acoustic, classical, 12 string], basses [fretted, fretless], banjos, ouds, keyboards, and percussion gear. So it should come as little surprise that when I’m recording original music at home, it tends to be difficult to classify.

Over the past few months I’ve been toying with the idea of acquiring a custom bass instrument for myself. I am pretty pleased with my 5 string, and I’ll probably keep it since it’s a Tony Levin signature model. But I think it’s possible to put something together that would be sort of an ultimate fretted bass for my needs.
