Softball Season Begins

May 8, 2008 by john No Comments »

My softball team “The Tube Socks” had our first game last night, which we won by one run. Good way to kick off the season and get some momentum going. My new cleats are surprisingly comfy, given the fact that until just a few days ago they were sitting in a box at a sporting goods store. I meant to up pick some up sooner and break them in, but never got around to it. Fortunately, they’re pretty good… and now that I got some grass stains and dirt on ’em, they look a lot better 🙂

I managed to go 2-for-2 at the plate last night, with both hits being minor dribblers to the infield; this meant having to peel out and run like a madman to make it to 1st base. I’ll hit the batting cage next week to tune up my swing.

The team is largely the same as previous years, and the everyone is very supportive. It’s a fun bunch of humans, and we always manage to have a great time. I suppose the promise of cold beer afterwards might be a good incentive…

Out Of Town Gigs

May 7, 2008 by john No Comments »

I’ll be traveling to Wenatchee this weekend to play a gig with 80s Invasion. We’re looking forward to the gig, and I’m hoping to get a little spare time on Saturday to walk around downtown Wenatchee. It’s a nice town and I always enjoy visiting. We’re still sorting out our travel logisitics, but my guess is we’ll be leaving early Saturday morning to head over. Thank goodness for Starbucks… I’ll need a caffeine boost to make my brain start so early…

XBOX 360 : "he's dead, Jim"

May 4, 2008 by john No Comments »

he's dead, JimTen days. Then the dreaded Red Ring Of Death. XBOX 360 owners universally dread the RROD, and it seems to happen to every unit eventually. Oh sure, you can cheat the RROD briefly with the old “wrap it up in a towel” trick, but it will just RROD again (permanently) in short order. Mine died an ignoble death without so much as a whimper. Oh well. I’ll replace it with a new unit and should be back in the gaming saddle again without too much delay. But sheesh… I’m thankful Microsoft doesn’t design airplanes.

Flipping Out / Feeling Groovy

May 2, 2008 by john 1 Comment »

The past few weeks have been unusually stressful and I’ve been working late, skipping the gym workouts and sleeping poorly. This has left me in a state of being (1) depressed (2) exhausted and (3) strangely creative. The general physical and mental burnout is a drag… I’m kinda flipped out and having a hard time concentrating… thus my brain is unquestionably gone to the “off leash” area and I feel inspired to write and record some music. Hopefully this weekend I’ll get some decent sleep, hit the gym and feel groovy enough to do something that creative spark.

In the mean time, it’s Friday and I feel like a zombie. Thank goodness for Starbucks coffee! If you find me in a catatonic stupor, please point me toward a latte. I will try to return to a semi-normal state next week.

XBOX Crashfest

Gah. My XBOX 360 is turning into “mr freeze”. Seems like every game eventually hangs and requires a system reboot! I hope this isn’t a sign of misery to come…
