Kitchen Remodeling
Well, we’ve done the appliance upgrade and new we’re getting into the core of the kitchen project. There are three major projects that are all inter-related.
- Cabinets
- Remove the cabinets on two walls.
- Remove the existing backsplash (which can’t be done unless these cabinets are removed).
- Remove the ceiling soffet above the cabinets. Install drywall on walls and ceiling where soffet previously existed.
- Remount the cabinets 4″ higher than their current location.
- Floor
- De-install dishwasher and fridge. Move appliances out of kitchen.
- Remove existing vinyl floor and subfloor.
- Install new subfloor / backerboard.
- Float thinset concrete.
- Install tiles.
- Re-install dishwasher and fridge.
- Countertop
- Remove sink and faucet.
- Remove gas cooktop.
- Remove countertop and backsplash (see notes on cabinets above).
- Install new plywood base on top of cabinets. This is necessary to support the counters.
- Install new granite counters and 4″ backsplash.
- Reinstall gas cooktop.
- Install new sink and faucet.
We also need to install a new vent hood over the cooktop, tile the wall above the 4″ granite backsplash, paint the rest of the walls and the ceiling, install new baseboard molding, and replace *all* of the outlets, switches, and cover plates. Whee! Many of these processes mutual dependencies, so I’m putting on my PM hat and trying to sort out the correct order of projects. Naturally, I’ll be taking pictures and making little charts and stuff…
